Roadtrip to Baltimore
So I have a busy summer ahead of me! Between moving to a new city, starting my first internship and taking two online classes, I am surprised I have time to write this blog. Because of my busy schedule and Tommy having a full time job this summer, we wanted to do something for ourselves before we worked all of our time away. I also wanted to spend quality time with him because this is the first time in the four years we have been dating where we will not be within a 5 mile radius of each other. This may cause people to roll their eyes as many go through long-distance relationships. I commend and respect those who do but I am fortunate enough to see Tommy majority of the year. This summer will be an adjustment for both of us and will, hopefully, be good for us.
Anyway, I digress. We took a road trip! I chose a random city within a short drive from Akron and we wounded up in Baltimore, Maryland! This city is full of history and hidden gems. The weather was not the nicest while we were there but we made it work.
The first day was a travel day. It took five and a half hours until we got to the place we were staying. Speaking of, we stayed in an Airbnb. For those who do not know what this is, basically people have houses or rooms they rent out to people during their vacations or travels. It could be an entire place or a room in their home. We opted for a place to ourselves because, well it is weird to stay in room. We had a great stay in our apartment. It was safe, clean and comfortable. We stayed in Fells Point and it was walking distance to everything in this part of time. We ubered to downtown and other locations. The hosts lived upstairs and we never had to talk to them which i enjoyed because I did not want to. Honestly, do not let it scare you. As long as the place has good reviews and ratings, it is really awesome. www.airbnb.com/c/abbyb1965 Use this link to get $40 off your first trip!
Our first full day in Baltimore was the nicest of all of them. The sun was out and it was HOT. We took this day to explore the Inner Harbor which is towards the heart of Baltimore. First thing we did was grab brunch. We ate at Miss Shirley's which is a must if you go to baltimore. It was so good and you have to get the monkey bread. We then took the rest of the day to walk around the Inner Harbor. It’s honestly so beautiful with the old ships, the water and the buildings. Right across from the Inner Harbor is a park, Federal Hill. It has the perfect view of the city skyline. It was quite a hike to get there but definitely worth it.
We saw the weather called for rain showers for the next day so we went to explore Fell’s Point on Tuesday rather so we could walk in the nice weather. Fell’s was my most favorite part of Baltimore. It was cute and had all local shops and vendors. It also had some history. The last bar Edgar Allan Poe's visited before he died, The Horse You Came in on Saloon, is located in Fells. Some of the best food in Fells is Koopers Tavern (our favorite), Alexander's Tavern, Riptide by the Bay, The Daily Grind (coffee shop) and Pitango Gelato for dessert!
Later we went to a Baltimore Orioles game. Tommy was most excited about this giving his love for baseball but unfortunately, it torrentially down-poured and the game was postponed. Before this happened, we had the best hot dog ever. It is in the stadium at Stuggy's and has mac and cheese and crab. Honestly, I was ok with the game being cancelled because the hot dog was so good.
On Wednesday, there was a day game for the Orioles. The weather looked crappy but not worthy enough of cancelling the game. So, yes we went again. Before we went, we got breakfast at Blue Moon Cafe. This is a local favorite and now one of our favorites. It is a small place and even on a Wednesday morning it was crowded. Luckily, we only waited twenty minutes or so. Tommy got their famous, Captain Crunch french toast. AMAZING. Honestly it was so good and I don’t like french toast too much but it was delicious. After the game, we came home and got out of the rain. We later enjoyed our last meal at Kooper's Tavern.
If you ever need a cool city to go and visit I recommend Baltimore! The drive was not bad and the city was neat to explore. Now we both are at work and dreaming of new cities to visit!
